Ran Hwang (b. 1960)
Born in Korea and based in New York, Ran Hwang portrays the cycle of life and death, visibility and invisibility, and instant beauty with large symbolic figures. Based on her earlier experience working in the fashion industry and her personal memories of the 9/11 incident, she uses everyday materials to embody delicate and sensuous images. At the same time, Hwang reflects upon time and looks back on society through the lens of Eastern Zen philosophy with elaborative hand works accompanied by repetition and asceticism.
Ran Hwang's artworks are in the collection of art museums such as the Brooklyn Museum in New York and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and have held solo exhibitions in institutions such as Mass MoCA in the United States, Asian Civilization Museum, and Hermes Foundation in Singapore, and are included in other collections including New York University and the Dubai Opera House. She is a participating artist of Facebook's Artist-in-Residence Program at the New York headquarters where her installation will be placed in 2021. Her works were also exhibited internationally in Switzerland, France, New York, Beijing, and Korea. Hwang received her BFA in Fine Art and MFA in Art Practice at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

This project undertakes the motto of ‘Think Outside Borders’ ‘Think Outside the Box’ ‘Think into Action’.
Art narrows the gap between countries. It minimizes language barriers and enables us to communicate qualitatively and share complex emotions. We are committed to using art as an outpost for carrying out critical conversations with the world by placing art in contexts that matter.
We leverage art as a learning platform by giving diverse audiences of the globe a window to narratives that are either overlooked, little understood in mainstream conversations, or distorted in stereotypes and create commonality. We also intend to design programmatic initiatives and exhibition strategies to support the kind of inclusion championed by our campaigns.
We collaborate with the art world to shed light on the complexity of the human experience and give a platform to which it can be seen and heard by endeavoring this artistic documentation to include in the international cultural network as well as in institutions as loudspeakers. By encouraging creative practices and connecting art to life, we strive to experience art in our life.
